A Three-Stage Examination:

The selection process for the TNPSC Group 1 & 1A examination consists of three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination:
    • This is an objective-type examination designed to screen candidates for the main examination.
    • The syllabus covers General Studies, Aptitude, and Mental Ability.
    • The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are for shortlisting purposes only and are not considered for the final selection.
  2. Main Written Examination:
    • Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Written Examination.
    • The Main Examination consists of descriptive-type papers covering various subjects, including General Studies, Tamil Language, and optional subjects (if applicable).
    • This stage evaluates the candidate’s in-depth knowledge and analytical abilities.
  3. Oral Test (Interview):
    • Candidates who qualify in the Main Written Examination are called for an Oral Test (Interview).
